What is the treatment of Anal Fistula?
Anal fistula occurs between the opening of the muscle at the end of the skin. Anal fistulas are caused by an infection that is present in the anal gland. When the infection lasts for a while, it becomes like a wound. Which is naturally dry through the skin next to the anus, or naturally through the body or surgery. The fistula develops between the skin and the infected gland. It can only be treated with surgery.
There are many different treatment options for anal fistula, although all of them require some amount of surgery. Fistulotomy is an option where you can also get a progress rectal flap to correct the fistula. You can also use a fibrin glue or collagen plug to close the fistula. Finally, your doctor may also suggest the Intrificentric fistula tract (LIFT) to correct the condition.

How is Anal Fistula treated?
The first step to start treatment is to find the exact path of the fistula. Without knowing where it is or how big it is, the doctor will ask you to do some tests. Thus, the doctor will ask them to conduct an MRI. Sometimes, an endoscopic ultrasound may be required to perform a thorough examination. There is also a specific procedure known as fistulography, which is essentially a high contrast X-ray of the fistula. Apart from these, a fistula probe, anoscope, flexible sigmoidoscopy (Sigmoidoscopy), or an injected dye are also the right ways to learn more about your fistula.

Based on what the doctors conclude, your treatment plan will be decided. If you are going through a fistolotomy, the doctor will close the internal opening of the fistula, in a progression rectal flap, and then cover it with a flap taken from the rectal wall. If the suggested treatment for you is a seton placement, the surgeon will use a string made of latex or silk to remove the infection. If a fibrin glue or collagen plug is being used, the internal opening of the fistula will close before the glue or plug is injected into the fistula to close the tunnel. If a LIFT process is being used, there are two steps to expect. The first is that the surgeon will perform a seton procedure during the time to widen the fistula. The fistula will then close.

Who is eligible for treatment of Anal Fistula? (When is treatment done?)
If you have developed an anal fistula, you are eligible to be treated for it.

Who is not eligible for treatment?
If you are allergic to silk or latex, then you are not eligible for treatment. Also, if you do not have anal fistula, there is no need to treat you.

Are there any side effects?
All procedures for the treatment of anal fistula are surgical, so there are some common side effects to expect. With most surgeries, bruising, swelling, and pain are common. Imbalance has side effects when performing surgery in the anus or rectal walls. Constipation, inability to walk, and deviation due to pain are also some side effects that one may experience. Some people are known to have allergies or latex and can therefore develop complications if they choose a seton placement or LIFT.

What are the post-treatment guidelines?
According to the major post treatment guidelines, any food that contains excess spices is considered strict because it is necessary that the digestive system usually becomes a little weak in the days following surgery, which takes some time to recover. The reason for this is that the objective rectal and rectal walls will take time to recover to their natural state. If we do not abstain, it can cause problems with immersion later. The patient must maintain a diet that is high in fiber and stay away from spicy foods for some time. Not forever, if everything is going well, the doctors leave and send them home, and they give them more and more rest.

How long does it take to recover?
Patients are usually discharged after having their first stool urine, which usually occurs within one or two days. However, it takes about two weeks to fully recover from surgery and its effects.
